Maverick Viñales and Repsol have joined forces in 2012. The best rookie of 2011 will race in Moto3 defending the colours of the Spanish energy company the coming season. Viñales is from Roses (Girona), is 17 and joins the select group of riders sponsored by the energy giant in World MotoGP.
With the signing of last year`s riding revelation Repsol has completed a dream line-up, consisting of Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa (MotoGP), Marc Márquez (Moto2), Maverick Viñales, Miguel Oliveira and Álex Rins (Moto3), strengthening its presence in the three categories of World MotoGP.
In spite of his young age Viñales has already had time to demonstrate his talent, both at national as well as international level. In 2009 he started out in the CEV (Campeonato de España de Velocidad), a competition where he finished second overall just 4 points off the winner. In 2010, Viñales managed to carry off the 125cc title in the CEV as well as the European Championship.
One year later, in his rookie year in World MotoGP, he shone out and carried off third place in the overall managing to get on the podium nine times, 4 of them as winner. A record that was rewarded with the prize Rookie of the Year in 2011, chosen by his fellow riders in the same class.
In 2012, Maverick Viñales faces his first ever year in the new Moto3 class, where he will coincide with the other Repsol riders Miguel Ángel Oliveira and Álex Rins. The duration of the agreement between Avintia Competición and Repsol, which allows Viñales to get the support of the Spanish energy company, runs until the end of 2012.
Repsol, which has been racing at the highest level of competition for over the last 40 years, is one of the leading sponsors in World MotoGP and starts the 2012 season with realistic hopes of winning all three categories.
Maverick Viñales
"I am really looking forward to defending the colours of a sponsor like Repsol this season, because speaking of Repsol is to speak of a long list of triumphs in World MotoGP. Many great riders have raced for this team and now I will become one of them. At the moment, the three main riders sponsored by Repsol, Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa and Marc Márquez, are World Champions, and that is without a doubt the objective for us in 2012. I just hope that I can follow in the footsteps that the other Repsol riders have marked out in World MotoGP and that I get many triumphs. Now I have to concentrate on practice in Valencia. A lot of improvements have been made to our bike so we really have to knuckle down to do it justice".
